A community for teachers and teacher educators exploring presence, pedagogy and practice
Welcome to Performative ELT — a professional learning community for teachers and teacher educators who are interested in how teaching happens, not just what is taught.
This space brings together work on Social and Emotional Learning, Embodied Learning, Performative Pedagogy and Facilitation Skills, with a focus on reflection, dialogue and practice rather than quick fixes or techniques.
Most people arrive here after a webinar, workshop or recommendation and wonder where to start.
This page is designed to help you orient yourself and choose your next step

Performative ELT is a Mastermind Community crafted to help Teachers and Educators increase learner engagement and Participation.
What Performative ELT is (and isn’t)
Performative ELT is:
a community of practice, not a course catalogue
a space for exploration, reflection and conversation
grounded in real classrooms and training contexts
It is not:
a collection of teaching “tricks”
a one-size-fits-all methodology
a purely academic or theoretical space
Join the Community (free)
The Performative ELT community is currently open-access while it is developing.
Inside the community you’ll find:
short, modular courses on
Social and Emotional Learning,
Embodied Learning,
Performative Pedagogy, and
Facilitation Skills (in development)
discussion spaces for sharing experiences and questions
access to shared resources, including the SEL handbook
an optional Research Circle for collaborative inquiry into how teachers’ behaviour and presence shape learning
These modules are designed as entry points — spaces to explore ideas and join conversations at your own pace..
Integrate — Teaching Artistry (online course)
Some educators reach a point where they want more than exploration — they want a coherent, structured pathway that connects the ideas.
Teaching Artistry is a fully asynchronous online course that brings together the four strands into a single, sequenced learning journey, supporting deeper reflection on teaching identity, presence and practice.
Online | Self-paced (4–6 weeks)
Structured progression rather than stand-alone modules
Designed for sustained professional reflection

A useful distinction:
The community offers space to explore.
Teaching Artistry offers structure to integrate.
Practise — Facilitation Skills Masterclass (face to face)
For those who want to take this work into the room, Performative ELT also offers face-to-face workshops.
The Facilitation Skills Masterclass is a two-day, in-person experience focused on:
presence, voice and attention
working with group dynamics
drama-based and participatory facilitation
reflection through embodied practice
Face to face | ITI Istanbul
Limited to 12–18 participants
About the work
Performative ELT is led by Dr Tom Godfrey, CEO of ITI Istanbul, teacher educator and researcher with a background in applied theatre, SEL and reflective teacher development.
The work draws on:
applied drama and theatre practices
social and emotional learning
embodied and performative pedagogy
facilitation and group process
Always with a focus on human, relational teaching.
Not sure where to start?
That’s completely normal.
Most people:
start by joining the community
spend time exploring ideas and conversations
later decide whether to take a structured course or attend a workshop
There is no expectation to do everything.
